Before starting collegiate baseball, Mark was drafted in the 22nd round (671st overall) by the Houston Astros. He played two seasons with the Gulf Coast League Astros and one season with the Greeneville Astros.
Mark was named 1st team All-Star and 1st team All-State his senior year of high school. He was also named to the Gulf Coast League All-Star team in 2010.
